Why losing weight isn’t just about eating less: You already know it all!

Why losing weight isn’t just about eating less

As a Personal Training studio, we encounter many individuals who want to lose weight. This means that alongside training, we also address people’s eating habits. However, we often find that we don’t need to focus extensively on the specifics of nutrition itself. We’d be happy to explain why.

Confusion about nutrition
When people come to BOOSTClubs, we begin with an intake process. During this intake, we conduct a trial training session where we assess your movement patterns, and we discuss your personal goals and expectations in an introductory conversation. It’s common for people to express confusion about what they should do with their nutrition during this discussion. It seems that there’s a need for more knowledge, and it’s understandable considering the abundance of (mis)information out there. Social media bombards you with it. One person has the ultimate golden tip, while another claims to have the best method. And these suggestions are often very specific, like “You absolutely must not do this” or “Do this now and you’ll see guaranteed results.”

You already know it all!
If you’re truly honest with yourself, you’ll realize that it’s not really knowledge that you need. After all, you’re already struggling to do what you know you should be doing. Everyone knows that vegetables are good for you, yet only 27% of people consume the recommended daily amount. We also know that fruit is beneficial, but only 19% meet the norm. Do you really need someone to tell you that it’s wise to drink less alcohol? Or that water is better for your health than cola? That if you want to lose weight, it’s better to eat cottage cheese before bed than a chocolate bar? Or that it’s good for you to bike more instead of driving? No, you already knew all of that.

That’s why we often say that the average lifestyle advice isn’t much different from what most parents preach daily. “Eat your vegetables, go to bed on time, limit screen time, have meals at the table instead of in front of the TV. Play outside, be cautious with alcohol because it’s harmful, you can have a piece of chocolate but not take it to school!” The essence? More exercise, more vegetables and fruits, sufficient rest, and moderation with snacks and alcohol. You really can’t get much better lifestyle advice than that.

Why is it so hard to change?
The real question then becomes: why is it so difficult to stick to these principles? Do you struggle to break habits? Or do you feel unequipped to resist all the temptations? Perhaps you need to take a step back because you might not have a clear understanding of why you truly want to lose weight. In that, you’re not alone.

So, losing weight isn’t just about eating less. Our BOOST Coaches deal with these kinds of issues daily and are trained to assist you beyond lifestyle advice. Do you struggle to apply all the lifestyle knowledge you already have? Book a free intake session to see how we can help you.
